And Cal turns around and beats San Diego State on the road.

And why the heck were BC and Duke playing an ACC game in mid-December?

A lot of leagues seem to be starting the conference schedule early this year. I think we've already had a couple of Big Ten games as well (or will this week), and the SEC starts on Dec. 30.
Not sure if it's because some extra conference games were added or because of a quirk in the schedule.

I’m guessing Big Ten is starting earlier because conference tournament is a week earlier so they can play at MSG.

Virginia seemed to always play one ACC game around Dec 7th or so each year from the 1980s-90s when I paid the most attention.

Not sure what all the expansion caused to the BB schedule as the ACC tried to become a football conference at the expense (unbalanced schedule, dilution) of basketball.

ACC also expanded to 18 conference games from 16.

Which I approve of, to try to get a better idea of who are the best.

BTW, this is a T-shirt for sale this year:

Anyone who would look askance at that shirt is a pacist, and I’ll call them that to their face.

The Hoos are actually playing incrementally faster this year. It’s partly a reaction to recruiting struggles and partly the graduation of my adult son, London Perrantes. That’s the good news from Ty Jerome taking the reins. The bad news from that is that Ty Jerome sucks now.

FWIW, over the last few years @Big Circus has gotten me to pay far more attention to Virginia basketball than I otherwise would've--if nothing else, just so I can better understand his posts. Our Pat and Steeler fans (especially you know who...) should take note: see, it is possible to be a likable fanboy.

    Go Wahoos.

I like the shirt, and like what Tony's been doing at UVa no matter what flavor. Winning is winning.

That’s the nicest thing anyone has ever said about me! Let me know when you’re ready to take a deep dive into the Five Pillars.

I literally cannot watch their stupid games for more than five minutes. That’s not basketball. My white southern Indiana friends love it, though.
