You and YankeeFan really should stop trying to tell us what the other side thinks. You both suck at it.

Yeah, there's no way that a properly punctuated, grammatically correct tweet without at least one word in ALL CAPS came from Donald's fingers.

(Well, he/she could have hyphenated "hard-fought")

That statement: "Good conservative policies are always worth pursuing" should have continued to read , "even if espoused by an accused child molester who thinks Muslims can't serve in Congress and that homosexuals should be imprisoned."

Yeah, but Dems don't like child molesters. What choice is left?

Hannity Bannon Infowars and similar conservative media activists are blaming this loss on Establishment Republicans. They are really stupid. Rather than saying this was an aberration of a historically bad candidate and MSM propaganda, they are skirmishing for an intramural battle.

I have no doubt that the democrat party will fuck this up and try to run the 2016 campaign again

Ah... but people are stupid. Our electorate proves it constantly, often with help from the politicians.

The Republican field of 16 is why Trump '16 won the nomination. Democrats blindly stood behind Hillary Clinton and her uninspiring campaign. People constantly vote against their self-interests.

If it's Hillary in the WH with a Republican congress, it's probably some level of gridlock -- or maybe not. My overall point is that the Democrats need to find something other than "Trump sucks" in 2018 and 2020.

Obama also had a Republican House for his last six years and a Senate for the last two. I look at two pretty decent economic stretches of late. 1994 to 2006... 2013/2014 to now. All pretty good. The starter home we owned from 2001 to 2005 went up 55%. You don't forget waves like that easily.

Tax & spenders weren't controlling the House during those two stretches. Bill Clinton governed as a centrist after 1994. Whereas Bush was a reckless spender for much of his eight years. The two years with Obama-Reid-Pelosi were corrections on the 2008 crash.

People generally lack discipline, which is why I'm puzzled at a Republican tax cut during this robust economic climate unless it's for corporate taxes. That I can understand.

(I know I'll never convince you, cran. You're a true believer and I do respect that.)

Trump bragging about endorsing Luther Strange and his numbers going up while ultimately losing is reminiscent of board poster Alley Allen bragging about his great 5-year marriage, which ended in divorce.

The partisan/tribal desire to lay claim to superior “managing” of the economy is amusing. Think about all the different laundries that ran the show over this time period, then tell me which “side” has a better track record ...

And they probably will -- to try and be all things to all of their voters instead of coming up with a cohesive message that sticks.

It still may be enough. I think last night saved the Senate for the Republicans in 2018 but Democrats should be in position to flip everything in 2020.

The Republicans in Congress, like everybody else, never expected Trump to win. When he did, they made an implicit bargain. They'd overlook his little quirks and corruption if he'd abandon his campaign promises about the economy and embrace their agenda of big tax cuts and bigger cuts to social spending. Now, they're caught on both bad sides of the bargain. If Trump doesn't improve his popularity, they're toast. Since the only plausible way he can do that is to go back to his economic promises, especially about Medicare and Social Security, Paul Ryan's agenda would be toast.

PS: It is always easier to have a coherent message in opposition. To wit: Trump sucks! Vote for the Democrat! The Republicans in Congress are only for the wealthy. That sucks! Vote for the Democrat! See how easy it is?
