Look, if it takes 1,284 scientists to declare that Drug X should be approved by the FDA, then it doesn't matter if the United States has a population of 1 million or 330 million. They're not doctors, of whom you need a certain growing number to serve a growing population. They study things that are either true or false, safe or unsafe, regardless of the number of people involved.

It reminds me of the property tax boondoggle, where even if property tax values shoot up 400 percent, the government always will manage to find a way to spend all those extra dollars coming in, even though the cost of maintaining city services did not increase 400 percent.
