There is no milestone or gauge, they don't need to tell you their reason. Tough as that is, they don't owe you any explanation.

"Bad cases make for bad laws" is the phrase that's appropriate here, I think.

You already think that all post-heartbeat abortion is immoral. Bringing children with special needs into it doesn't change your opinion on the matter, nor should it.

OK, it's late and I will be rudely awakened in mere hours. Abortion is an issue I feel strongly about. I won't apologize for that. But I don't want to veer too far off track. As you were.

Should people be allowed to discuss their genetic profile with their doctor and change their decision on whether or not to get pregnant based on risk profiles? Would that be unacceptable eugenics against special needs people?

I tried to think of a better word, really wanted another. I totally give you your right to that idea---not up to me, again can't think of a better way to put it. You are right to feel how you do as long as there is no law involved.

True. They don't. But if you're unwilling to defend a life-and-death decision on grounds other than "Because I can," then maybe it wasn't such a good decision.

    OK, I'm sleepy.

    Some things to consider.

    1) Conservative policies as currently practiced in this country lead to more abortions. It's an incontrovertible fact. Paying for family planning, mandating birth control be a fundamental part of health care, making sure poor women have access to said health care, teaching young people sex education. All of those lower the number of abortions. If abortions are bad, conservatives need to stop making them happen more.

    2) Conservative policies are bad for special needs people. Having a special needs child and guiding them from cradle to grave is not something anyone short of the upper-upper-class can afford. The costs are more than most people will make in a lifetime. So far, I've been helped by numerous government programs, many more since I moved to liberal-as-fuck California. I've not seen a dime from any sort of private charity.
