Why does Matt Damon suck now?

He was great in ‘Team America.’

Seems obvious by your disdain for Damon’s obvious acting chops that you’re either a Yankee fan or Damon once plowed your significant other. Maybe both.

The most overrated performance in The Departed was Mark Wahlberg’s.

I swear to God, I cannot read Matt Damon's name without hearing "MATT DAY-MON" from that movie. That's how his name is pronounced inside my head.

    Agree.
Wahlberg's character was poorly written. He was just a whiny, antagonizing little bitch.
I actually liked the movie though. Nicholson could film himself getting drunk on scotch, and I would watch. Love Jack.
Ending was somewhat meh, but that was the only way that could end.
Goes to show you how people love to work with Scorcese though........just look at the cast.

    Damon
    DiCaprio
    Sheen
    Nicholson
    Damon
    Wahlberg
    Baldwin

The whole movie... One of things that makes Scorsese great, or at least one of the measures for me, is how his best work stands up—even demands—repeat viewings. I have watched GoodFellas and Casino probably 50 times. I could happily watch them 50 more. But there are films of his, and The Departed is a great example, that do not stand up to repeated viewings. They're more style over substance, and that shows with time. An over-the-top performance like Wahlberg's or Alec Baldwin's, and the music and action, kind of distract you from the lesser story and storytelling the first time around. Gangs of New York is another one. I loved it when I first saw it, but I think that's because I was mesmerized by Daniel Day Lewis, who is incredible in it, and the period, and the cool fucking names of the gangs. (THE FORTY THIEVES.) But Leo isn't nearly as good, and Cameron Diaz was an abomination in that role. Her accent makes me want to slam my hand in a door. I can't watch it.

I would put The Departed in that class of Scorsese: the ones for which the admiration lessens over time. Unlike GoodFellas, which only becomes better and better. Maybe that's the hallmark of great work, great art. It improves the more it lives.

    I remember
Seeing that "Rounders" is almost 20 years old makes me feel darned old. My wife didn't mind that movie until the end when Damon leaves the girl for Vegas. I told her I swear I'd never even think of such a thing.

  10. I think Nicholson was one of the worst things about the movie. This movie was the turning point for my on Nicholson's career. This is where he started to "Pacino" his roles. He wasn't an actor playing a role, he was Nicholson, being Nicholson.

Approps of nothing: I'll take L.A. Confidential over The Departed any day of the week.

Go on Twitter and ask Brian Koppelman when he's going to write Rounders 2. He loves that.

I heard or read that it was a Coen brothers script that Clooney took over and added a plot line that made the movie the mess it supposedly was.

I think it's mentioned in passing that he was killed for doing another drug deal without permission.
