What happens when even more U.S. dollars are kicked upstairs and hoarded?
Currency has to be available and fluid for the middle class to drive the economy.

Given the chaos within the administration, I'd bet everyone in it is proposing pet policies for "consideration" in the hope ithey'll slide through the chain of command without anyone noticing. Goodness knows Trump won't notice unless Fox and Friends does.

Whatever the case, there is a coldly rational logic to it that Dems will need to consider as they formulate their strategy for the mid-terms. The reality is, the immigration issue is a net winner for Republicans, and it's why you continue to hear so much about it. The polling data makes it abundantly clear: the vast majority of Americans believe the country has reached its capacity of immigrants. Don't try to argue from emotion on this. Look at the numbers:

    Immigration

The number that jumps out to me is that only three percent of Americans have no opinion on immigration. And of those who have an opinion, only 25 percent believe that immigration should be increased. The rest of the pack is pretty evenly split between "should be decreased" and "should be maintained at its present level," but it doesn't take a doctorate in the human condition to suspect that the "present level" crowd includes a contingent that subconsciously leans toward the "should be decreased" side of things. Regardless, when 75 percent of the population definitively believes that immigration should not be increased, the numbers are not on the side of the party that routinely finds itself defending the inherent "goodness" of immigration.

I'm sure that the GOP's polling data makes it clear that forcing Democrats to repeatedly brand themselves as the party of the immigrant is a political winner. Liberals don't have to like it, and they don't have to accept it, but it is reality. This goes back to the whole principles vs. politics thing. Because most of the GOP's principles rest on a bedrock of Hobbesian/Malthusian logic, they easily reconcile with the political realities of campaigns. Not so for the Dems.

If you don't fight bigotry and ignorance, why bother with politics at all?
