His ascension into the pantheon of the great Jedi may be due to the exertion of creating the illusion of battle with Ben? Actually, I was never quite impressed with Luke’s abilities as a Jedi knight. He vanquished his father who may have tanked in the end. Qui-Gon Jinn was a much better Jedi, Obi-Won and Anakin were better fighters. Luke’s fame is because he was the last one, not because he was the best one. Even without her training, Rey was a better fighter than Luke. IMHO, Luke was the weakest character in the original set and my least favorite. His death sets the way for Rey to be the ultimate protagonist.
Of all the Str Wars characters Rey and Jyn Erso are my favorite good guys.

My favorite character ever was Lando - precisely because he never fit neatly into a box of good guy or bad guy. He was both, like many people are.
He was my kind of asshole, and I would rather see an origin story about him than Solo.

Guessing Lando will be a big part of the Han Solo standalone flick next year. Tho I’d sign up for a Lando origin story too.

The Solo movie sounds like it could be a hot mess with firing the directors and bringing in Ron Howard to finish it.

The fanboi backlash to Last Jedi will seem mild if Disney missfires and messes up Solo.

This would make so much more sense than going with the Solo origins movie, because as Deskgrunt mentions, you don't have all of the built-up lore like you do with Han Solo. Even before the reshoots on that movie, I was kind of pessimistic on it.

Donald Glover is playing Lando in the Solo movie. I doubt they would give him a small role.

I feel like Solo's story has been told. Same with Ben's. Is there really need for an Obi-Wan standalone?

"Safe" IP, I imagine, which is why we're getting them instead of, say, something set 10,000 years before or after the main trilogy, like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

That was kind of what Luke's story arc in The Last Jedi was about, wasn't it? Living up to this enormous legend when, deep down, he knows he's not that special, and the weight that it puts on him leading to hubris and his failure with Ben.

For a fan, I was a late-goer today to "Star Wars: The Last Jedi."

I liked it a lot -- better than Episode VII. I liked that Rey's parents were no-good nobodies, and that they showed the Force attracting average people and kids at the end, because when it comes down to it, The Force, and Star Wars involves a values-oriented, somewhat spiritual message, and oftentimes, the down-and-out, the disowned and the disillusioned are just the ones who are drawn to forces greater than themselves.

I also enjoyed that this movie got back to being more straightforwardly action-oriented, kind of like Episode IV (A New Hope). It was easy to follow and just good fun while, well, while keeping hope alive and retaining the basically/usually optimistic tenor of the series.

I had read an article online before going in which Mark Hamill disagreed fundamentally with the way Luke Skywalker was portrayed in this movie -- as if he was hiding away, just licking his wounds, etc., over his failure with Ben Solo/Kylo Ren, and I have to side with Hamill about that. I didn't really like it, and didn't think it was played as Luke, at least as known previously, would have/should have reacted. The portrayal in this movie made me want more -- more explanation/depiction of Ben Solo's early talents/training with the Force, more on his relationship with Luke, and more regarding Luke's interactions with Ben's parents post- their son's turn to the dark side. I also am among those who thought Luke's end was a bit premature, unnecessary and questionable in many respects.

The relationship between Ben and Rey, as portrayed, fascinates me. I hope it somehow looms large in the next installment, or some future episode if not that one. It certainly seems like it could, and should.

I saw it again today with my nephews.
I have to say, I feel like Rose is there to push Disney's social engineering agenda, and think she's quite possibly the worst character in all of the Star Wars movies - including Jar Jar.
Driver is doing a very good job with his character, and not getting enough credit for it.
