Let the market dictate prices and costs. If family farmers can’t cut it without welfare, let them sell it to agro-corps who can farmer more efficiently.

Family farms and big ag would both survive without subsidies. But food prices would skyrocket. It’s not a matter of helping farmers, it’s about providing cheap food to the USA.

I find it hard to believe that farm subsidies are done for the benefit of the consumer. it’s a tangential benefit but the primary benefit is for the farmers and red state voters.

I’m just echoing what the FIL told me. He farms nearly 20,000 acres and is president of a national farming association. I assume he knows a bit about it.
