Aug. 1? Crazy. That’s the day my daughter was born, as well.

    Pilot,

Whoa - that is sad. That's a bad scenario in which everyone will be painfully second guessing their actions and inactions for a long time to come. Yi yi yi.

I wish you all the ability to come to peace with it all someday.

    Regards,
    VB

I don’t know the brother well or anyone else involved at all, but yeah, thanks, it some numbing news to wake up to. I hope it’s some solace to my friend and her brother that they pretty quickly shifted from justifiable rage against the friend to concern. It doesn’t sound like their last conversation was a nasty fight, at least.

Rented a room at a nice hotel that has a heated pool, allowing my 9 year old daughter to act like it was July. We played catch in the pool for two hours, totally had the run of the place. My girlfriend was with us, too. Drank some beer, had some wine. Went back to room and showered, then had dinner in the restaurant dining room. We were the only people there. Later went upstairs and played monopoly, makeshift ping pong, and watched Ryan Seacrest for like four hours as we lounged on two queen beds. Was idyll. Daughter nodded off and was worried she wouldn’t see ball drop. I assured her I would wake her up. I did at 11:58, and as soon as it hit midnight what she did do? Wish me or my girlfriend happy new year? No, she jumped off the bed to grab her iPad so she could text her mom, my ex-wife. Yeah, that went over like a fart in church and we all went to bed angry. But the kid is 9, understands what she did was inconsiderate and rude. And after reading Pilot’s harrowing take, it doesn’t amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. Happy New Year all

That is the best, going to an indoor pool in the winter when it is colder than a witch's tit in NYC and the suburbs. Few years ago, we went to Lake George on Dec 22 and stayed at the Great Escape (think that's the name, across from the Six Flags). There were maybe 10 cars in the parking lot. At the indoor water park, you would go down the slide, walk right back up the stairs and go down again. Drove back late afternoon on the 24th.

Heh. Everything Christmas is to Americans, New Year's is to Russians. Families, gifts, decorations, etc. Country basically shuts down the first 10 days of the year.

Which made Obama's decision to expel diplomats last year --- on Dec. 31 --- especially cruel. Worst possible day to pull that.

Went and ate at Beer Barrel Pizza in Maumee... it's the newest location of a chain in Ohio. Then back to the apartment to watch some Rockin Eve and Sportscenter and then it was out for me. Had to work today.

Don't act like a 90-year-old lady and fall for a simple phishing attempt, and no one will touch your computers.

Had youngster Chiquet's best friend and family come over for a dinner of appetizers and desserts. Split some beers with the dad, yelled at the kids a few times for being too crazy, watched the sh*tshow that is Rockin' Eve, kissed the wife at midnight and everyone left. I stayed up to wait for my buddy who is staying with us this weekend. He did a doubleheader of Packers/Lions and then Wings/Pens (he found a free ticket from a friend's mom that didn't want to go). He didn't get back until almost 2 a.m., so I stayed up and caught up on Agents of SHIELD and then we BS'd til 3 a.m. Luckily, my son didn't wake up until after 9, but I've been pretty tired all day. Only left the house once, otherwise been in PJs all day...so I got that going for me...which is nice.
