This. I think that's a symptom not a cause of what I thought Last's problems were - too rushed and too dumbed down - but it didn't help. Both the original film and Empire used their first acts to set up their stories.

That goes back to the bit about letting the past die and why the originals are slowly being phased out. I absolutely get the approach. I don't like it because these things should be dictated by the story, but I get it and I'm not surprised by it.

And yes, they do know how to make money. I'm just saying if they think they can make money by having Rey have to fight off a bunch of Stormtrooper/Alien hybrids, they will go that route in a heartbeat.

Finally saw it last week .... in an absolute run-down shithole theater in Springfield, Tn., where the heat was out (but it only cost me $3.85 per ticket, so that was a plus).

The Leia scene was horrible. Why? Why? Why? Why? Otherwise, I was kinda 'meh' about it. A bunch of TFA plot lines were just tossed aside, and too much time spent on meaningless side quests.

I am pleasantly surprised that Rey isn't related to anyone. It's a galaxy full of planets - everyone who means anything doesn't have to be related.

I don't want it to be anything. It simply is.

Although telling Rey the truth AS HE UNDERSTOOD IT, IN THAT MOMENT sounds like a politician's answer.

It means that he's not directing the next movie. That's all he meant.

Johnson wasn't trying to leave open the idea that Ren was lying to Rey. He was foreclosing that possibility.

It's also technically "still open" that Lando Calrissean is reincarnated as a Porgue mole that Hux keeps as a pet.

Johnson was just being respectful to Abrams. Rey's parents are nobodies. Junk traders. That's not changing.

He has no control over it.

If someone wants to come along and change it, it will change. Just as he changed some of the things planned for the second episode.

My out there theory is that as a final act of destroying the white walkers, bran stark melts the polar ice caps of Westeros thus flooding the planet. He turns into a weir wood. Jedi order forms around his tree.

It's still early, but we have a contender for nerdiest sentence of the year.

I even went with the French spelling of Porg.
