What are the odds Schmidt was in Mar-a-Lago in the first place to talk with sources for this story and then the interview was just a freebie? Since we have oodles of documentary evidence that Trump never shuts up in the presence of others, I don't think there could be any interview strategy except "let him babble." I've read interviews with Trump that did have follow up questions and he either ignores them or trails off into more incoherence that usual. Schmidt got the goods.
