And yet they aren’t going after criminals, making arrests and deporting rapists, murderers, robbers, pedophiles, adulterers and fornicators. You know, the republican base

Tyranny of the seen. What about all the folks in India or China or Vietnam or wherever who never got to come here because the laws were selectively not-enforced?

I have a lot of compassion for people caught up in a stupid-ass system managed stupid-assedly. And, I should note, I'm about as open-borders as they come. But those heart-wrenching tales ... if you're going to have laws that limit immigration, they're inevitable.

Restricting entry and deportation are not equivalent concepts.

Like it or not, we had lax enforcement on immigration for a long time. And as much fun as it is for the racists and YFs (see, I separated them!) to scream about how it's because of bleeding heart liberals, conservative business owners wanting to profit off the cheap labor had as much to do with it as anything. Rounding up people now, after decades in the United States with the de facto protection of norms and having put down roots and made families, is something only a literal monster would want to do. It's also a fucking stupid thing to do, because they are productive members of society who improve our economy.

Now, with regards to enforcing the laws so that we at least don't get new illegal immigrants, that's a different issue, but it comes from the same place. America hasn't had a major net illegal immigration problem since the 1990s. There's no evidence that current methods are insufficient or that we have a problem that needs significant new investment. Mass deportation is evil whereas the Wall is just stupid and wasteful, but they both come from the same racist place.

And everyone who claims this is just about "enforcing the laws" is a liar. Nobody cares about "rules are rules" when they have the power to change the rules, unless the rules are going to bring about an outcome they like. If rules were rules, Donald Trump wouldn't be allowed to take the oath of office until he divested himself. They *like* seeing the screws put to brown people, otherwise there'd be 100% support behind DACA. DACA recipients should be the least controversial immigration imaginable. It costs us nothing to keep them, they were too young to be meaningfully legally guilty of illegal entry, they are required to be peaceful productive citizens who contribute taxes but are ineligible for almost all services. They are a literal freeroll, and spending money to deport them is stupid twice over.

In an incredibly predictable move, the department that processes those adjustments is going to mysteriously slow down and fail to process a huge batch of them that seemed to have gotten there in time.

This is about one thing and one thing only: Getting brown people out of the country because of Trump's ties and sympathies to white nationalism. And this is why his supporters like it.

If "rules were rules," Uber, for one example, wouldn't exist.

That's true. I also agree with Rick's assessment that this is a dog whistle for Trump's racist-ass supporters and will hurt a lot of good people pretty needlessly.

And it's absolutely settled fact that Oprah is negotiating the sexual terms in that picture! After all, that's what every conversation is about in Hollywood.

This may be the single dumbest tangent in the history of this thread.
