There was this guy who won the Nobel Prize in physics for his discovery of the electron. His “plum pudding” theory of the atom, for a time widely held, was ultimately proved to be incorrect. There was this other guy, also a winner of the Nobel in physics, who long posited a static model of the universe that also turned out to be wrong.

As regards the word “theory,” most people, like you, don’t know the first thing about it.

 

I know it's used differently in science and that puts me ahead of most people.
