I have this colleague, took his PhD at an upmarket place, has done some nice work ... pretty bright guy. But he consistently tries to use words that he doesn't fucking understand. Drives me bananas.

Ran across interesting data a moment ago while setting up a Facebook retargeting audience.

Under the "Donate to conservative political causes" demo, 3,500,000 people are available in the US.
Under the "Donate to liberal political causes" demo, 2,900,000 people are available.

Make of that what you will.

 

Well, he is a fan of a SECessionist football team.

 

I recall reading this somewhere -- so it must be TRUE! -- but I think it's the case that liberals tend to be more likely than conservatives to view themselves as independents. If that's the case, that might account for a lot of the difference.

 

I always thought it was the prevalence of church-related causes in the conservative set. That's always the quick explainer for why conservatives show up as more charity-minded, anyway.
