So the answer to the question possed, Why are we allowing people from these shithole countries into the US? is because as a Judeo-Christian Nation founded upon ideals of liberty, freedom, tolerance and inclusion, we have opened our figurative arms to welcome the least among our brothers and sisters.

Right. It’s not just calling them “shithole countries.” It’s using the fact that people are from “shithole countries” as a reason to keep them out, rather than let them in. It’s the cartoonish expression of an elitist worldview from a guy who has no idea he’s not actually elite.

I mean, seriously, it's not racist when you call a crime ridden city a shithole, because you weren't discussing race, but if you call Haiti, a country that's been mismanaged since its inception, you're obviously referring to the race of the people.

Well, here's the thing...

Trump wants to end the Visa Lottery, among other programs, and replace it with a merit based program.

Durbin's reply was to end the Visa Lottery, but then take those visas allocated for that program, and apply them to Hatians, who have been living here under Temporary Protected Status, and who have been told they must leave by mid 2019.

That's the exact opposite of what Trump is requesting.

 

Colonialism is obviously a factor, but it's not the only factor.

 

If MC had said, "Baltimore sure is a shithole compared to - just spitballing here - Bangor, Maine!" you would have a better comparison.

 

If Trump had agreed with Durbin, and said that Haiti is a shithole, and we need to protect the Hatians here, and grant them visas, so they don't have to go back, is anyone upset?
