Well, that's unfortunate. He put up good posts on genealogy threads.

The specifics of the Aziz story aside, it has opened, or at least intensified, a broader subject.

It's along the lines of what @RickStain has said, that women should give enthusiastic consent before sex proceeds.

Is that too high a standard?

That's not this story. People want that to be this story. But it's not this story.

He pressured her over and over and over again, after multiple attempts by her to get him to slow things down, explicitly. "No" doesn't mean, "Try harder."

I'm sure he would say that each time, she seemed to indicate a desire to go further, perhaps non-verbally. But how many times did this woman - on a first date - have to explicitly tell him that she wanted him to stop? At some point, he needed to let her just take the lead, and accept that it might not happen.

The "second date" comment should make people ill.

Ansari wanted to have sex. She said she remembers him asking again and again, “Where do you want me to fuck you?” while she was still seated on the countertop. She says she found the question tough to answer because she says she didn’t want to fuck him at all.

“I wasn’t really even thinking of that, I didn’t want to be engaged in that with him. But he kept asking, so I said, ‘Next time.’ And he goes, ‘Oh, you mean second date?’ and I go, ‘Oh, yeah, sure,’ and he goes, ‘Well, if I poured you another glass of wine now, would it count as our second date?’” He then poured her a glass and handed it to her.

My God, give the poor woman some space to breathe.

That is funny, not because of his relentlessness or tenacity, but because you can visualize that scene in your head and see how pathetic he looks in that moment.

That's EXACTLY who he is, a guy who feels entitled to pussy at will and on-call because he's a star.

@Dick Whitman all that is true.

    Also true is:

    --He did oral on her
    --She did oral on him
--Neither of these appeared to be coerced

I mean, that's pretty far down the road sexually. I'm baffled reading this that this is the kind of thing that happens on dates -- they just stop in the middle and get the tongues and genitals out, then go back to talking about countertops and wine.

Now ... did she honestly think Aziz Ansari was going to kill her if she tried to leave the apartment? Maybe, but that does seem a bit far-fetched. If you're mortified/terrified by someone's behavior, would cuddling on the couch and watching "Seinfeld" be the proper way to handle the situation as opposed to leaving?

In a different light -- specifically the debate about college campuses and how this would play in the university's secret tribunals of guilt -- I don't think you'd be arguing the same side of this issue.

I don't even read it that way, the star thing. I just read about a guy who got it in his mind he was going to get some sex. This scene plays out thousands of times on college campuses every Friday and Saturday night, I'm sure.

Yes it's a guy trying to get laid thing. But it's a star thing.
