Aziz Ansari talked a good game. So did Ben Affleck. And Matt Lauer. Need I go on?

You'll need to do way better than cite a few anecdotal celebrity cases of men behaving badly to convince me that men, as a whole, aren't more respectful and don't treat women with a better sense of equality than they did 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 years ago. The #MeToo movement isn't suggestive that men are regressing in their attitudes; it suggests that change hasn't happened quickly enough at a time when women are better able to mobilize.

The same applies to race in this country, BTW.

@Alma (and I) agree with the #MeToo movement, then, because we don't think men have regressed, either. We're just of the belief that they're most likely as bad as they've ever been (OK, maybe not that bad, but they haven't gotten any better these last 50 or so years).

I think you're relatively right about this. But the male species will be socially engineered much faster now with #metoo.

Why was there a rush two days ago to believe everything she said and start discussing whether, at some distant point in the future, Aziz Ansari can salvage some sort of entertainment career if he is properly contrite and hits all the right notes?

I don't understand why the fact that he probably missed the cues is exculpatory.

Getting your dick sucked by a woman is a clue, too.

Because believing women is at the core of the #MeToo movement, is it not?

Not to the point where one has to be so goddamn anxious about it to show their woke'ism. Not directed at you.

But it's like, OH MY GOD, WE GOTTA BELIEVE HER RIGHT FUCKING NOW OR ELSE WE'RE PERVERT CAVEMEN FUCKAZOIDS ON THE WRONG SIDE OF HISTORY!

Give some of these things time to breathe so they can be properly parsed.

I don't disagree with you. But the question was why there was a rush to determine if this was career-ending for him. And the answer is that we have been asked to believe women, no questions asked. And if you believe the woman here, then it should be career-ending, no?
