For some reason, I was thinking that Scocca was a co-author of the Manti Te'o piece, but it looks like he wasn't. My memory was foggy. Was he Deadspin's editor at the time? (I thought that was Tommy Craggs, who I think, incidentally, has been named at some point during the current tidal wave.)

I can't keep all these goddamned Gawker guys straight. I know the one who checked out his wife's ass crack at work. That guy I remember. John Cook.

Journalism is a profession. Experience counts. There's a reason you have to be a mechanic at Volkswagen for seven years before they let you touch a Porsche. You could argue that babe.net is a Volkswagen. The weird thing about journalism these days is that babe.net, if it catches the right story, can also look a lot like a Porsche for a couple of days.

 

I can't remember if Tommy was the editor for the "80 percent sure" Manti Te'o story, but that was a fucking sin against journalism.

Anyway, the film cameras Aziz loves are the Contax T3 (for black and white, the one he's holding) and Olympus Stylus Epic (for color).

So the GQ story and video came out on August 2, 2017. The Emmy's and party were September 17, or 46 days later.

Grace is a photographer. Maybe she saw the video and loved that they had the same cameras.

Maybe she wanted to meet him, somehow some way.

Maybe she found a way to get into that afterparty ...

... because she's a Brooklyn-based photographer.

Brooklyn-based but just happened to be in L.A.

Maybe that was the plan.
