I'm sorry, I can't let this one go. It's just so monumental in it's stupidity.

Even poor Dreamers are ineligible for services. Poor people still pay taxes, especially sales taxes and fees. So they're still a net positive on government books.

By criminalizing them, you not only lose that free tax money, you now have to spend money (10,000 extra ICE agents!) to arrest, detain and prosecute them. You're literally spending money to get rid of a source of income.

And again, literally nothing is gained for this intentional self-injury, unless you are the sort of person who feels that "make brown people suffer until I don't have to live in the same country as them" is of value.

And not only are conservatives in favor of this, they're coming along with some sort of talking point that failing to criminalize low income in brown people proves that DACA recipients are eligible for services after all.

 

Somebody should introduce a 24-hour funding CR. Make those Congressional bastards vote every day to keep the doors open - instead of jetting off to Davos or whatever junket or fundraiser they have planned.

 

I’d bet republicans would be flexible on this provision.

What’s the democrats’ proposal? Where are they willing to compromise?

My dad went to school not knowing how to speak English.

He later served in WWII.

His dad (who came over in 1909 not knowing how to speak English) served in the MN National Guard during WWI.

Helluva country we got these days.
