You definitely want to read the “Terms and Conditions” on that one ...

What, you thought he'd use donations to him to pay it?

One of my best friends - the only one of our college group not yet married with kids - had been having success with Tinder and Bumble. That was the group I went to KC with last year (talked about on another thread) and we did the whole “Let the guys swipe for you” thing for a while. He was talking with a girl the last night we were there and wrote her “Is it OK if I roll by with 10 of my friends? Don’t worry, they’re all married.” Never heard back.

Fast forward 6 months and he’s engaged to:

    - A 24-year-old girl (we are all...older than that)
    - Whom he met on Tinder
    - With a young child
    - Whom he has known for roughly 6 weeks
    - Who lives in Peru (he’s in northern VA)
    - Who speaks no English

We are all hoping it works out for him.

I think you might want to lock your friend in the trunk of a car and drive him deep into the woods for a little while.

He's not engaged unless there's a ring and a date.

Sincerely, one of my greatest life regrets is not somehow physically preventing a very good friend from marrying a very bad woman. They lasted less than a year. She was and is awful. It was a painful experience for him that I feel like I should have prevented, or at least tried to prevent. I don't know how serious you are about your friend's, um, companion, and what kind of friendship you have, but you might want to try your best to prevent him from making a massive mistake.

Man, I got no fucking clue. None of us know what to make of it. Don’t think she’s set foot stateside yet. I celebrate a little inside every time he goes down there and comes back without having married her.

I mean, I don't know what I would do either. I just know how I feel about my friend. Your friend's situation—and maybe it's real love—but it sure sounds on the face of it like she's looking to marry an American passport.

I know you're a grownup and don't need advice from a stranger on the Internet. My buddy's situation just really haunts me.
