The best you could do was a promise from a known liar to "open the debate" on immigration?

The debate, if it happens, will go something like this:

Sane people: These people who have literally been Americans for all their ability to remember, who are a boon to society, should be granted full citizenship.

Counterproposal from insane people: They should be granted a temporary stay of deportation that we reserve the right to revoke at any time for any reason. They are eligible for no government benefits, but it is a felony for them to make less than 125% of the poverty level for any length of time. They must wear special symbols on their clothing so we know who they are. And we demand 10,000 extra jackbooted thugs to keep them in line, as well as funding for special detention centers in the desert where we can keep them when- ... if. If we decide to revoke this status.

    Sane people: Fuck off.

Ooops, guess the debate went nowhere. Oh well, we tried.

I would speculate that Weinstein was so egregious and public a case, particularly to include well known celebrity accusers, that it rang completely true. His actions were an "open secret" and yet were long tolerated. That touched off intense focus on and discussion of long existing issues.

As to why the Women's Marches seem to focus on Trump instead, could it be that it is because he is the ostensible "Leader of the Free World", leader of his party, and the most powerful politician in the country? Given the Access Hollywood tape, the numerous accusations of sexual assault ("They're all lying!"), his admitted busting into beauty pageant dressing rooms, and general boorishness, misogyny, and sexism makes him a natural focus of their anger and disgust with the system that enables him.

Christ, someone needs to attempt to be. The last ten pages or so have been pretty bad. We're not quite in the "Oh yeah? Says who? Push you, shove me" cycle that got the thread locked down until a day or so ago, but it's gotten close.

Hey! Let's you and me get in a snit! I think Bear Bryant, Jr., would make a great federal judge!

Do they let people connected to insurance fraud and animal cruelty become federal judges?

    Oh, yeah... it's Trump, right?

"In a letter accompanying the complaint Monday, Common Cause’s vice president for policy and litigation, Paul S. Ryan, asserted that the reported hush money “was an unreported in-kind contribution to Donald J. Trump for President, Inc., and an unreported expenditure by the committee — because the funds were paid for the purpose of influencing the 2016 president general election — in violation of the campaign finance reporting requirements” required by law."
