The coach required his athletes to see this doctor, and this doctor only. They didn't want to upset the coach.

Look at it this way. They, and their parents, essentially are giving up their entire lives in order to pursue an Olympic gold medal, and they don't want to upset the two people who can decide on a whim to end their dream.

 

They'll probably find that a gymnast was given extra chalk and rule it an extra benefit.
