I think that the general reaction to child molesters in prison is pretty well established. Their lives are unpleasant, and they have to be isolated from the main body of prisoners for their own safety.

I don't hope that he suffers prison rape, but there would be a certain poetic justice if he did.

You ARE losing your shit. I was merely cutting and pasting the shit out of her twitter background and tweets (fucking twitter). This was left off my original post.

I'm only a lawyer, married to a defense attorney. But whatever.

"I just signed your death warrant" will be the pitch of a new action movie very soon.

Who plays the female badass who gets to deliver that line?

She's likely correct that his lawyers will base at least a portion of an appeal on the judge's actions and comments today. But that kind of appeal - attacking a sentence as overly harsh on the basis of judicial bias - are rarely successful.

By reading his letter into the record, allowing as many victim impact statements as she did, and sentencing him within the guidelines, it will be very difficult for an appeals court to overturn her judgment.

That said, there were a couple of points during the sentencing where the judge's comments made me a little concerned, and I felt like she was playing up for the cameras.

Not saying I'm cheering, but if there's an offshore bookie who has an o/u on the number of years Larry lasts in the clink, I'm on the under.

A random thought, obviously well down the list of concerns in the grand scheme of this case, but the lousy life for the folks in the MSU communications department is just beginning. I work in communications at another Big State U and can't fathom this kind of shitstorm from a professional standpoint. They're still trying to do their jobs, like yesterday the school's Twitter had a nice in-house feature about research done at MSU involving self-driving car technology. I wrote about similar work at my school several months ago, getting some nice media pickup and such. On Twitter, their release's comments are nothing but stuff like "cars to drive away from your rape-enabling school". That's going to continue for months if not years.

I told a friend at the U of Michigan that they're probably going to see a lot of resumes from East Lansing soon.
