    I'm a big fan of Petty's. Did he have No. 1 hits in the past 5-10 years, no, but there was some damn good music he put out that was more than meaningful and was definitely original.

    He's written plenty of "great" songs since Mary Jane's Last Dance, perhaps you need to go back and listen to not just the hits.

    Why do musicians cease to make hits as they age? It's not like they lose speed on their fastball or their knees get old.
