He was obviously much better in the ring and had more pedigree, but I think Miz's career arc is similar to Bret Hart. Both spent a long time at the mid-card level (Hart was there for the better part of 10 years) before finally ascending to main event status. The big difference is Hart never went back down once he got there, unlike the Miz.
Christian might be another. Reliable guy who you could always build an IC or tag team feud around, but didn't get a lot of opportunities to be a main eventer.

I would argue that Miz's career is one of a kind in its ilk.

He went from up-and-comer, to tag team champ, to surprising WWE champ, and then it all went poof basically. He had some successes here and there but he was floundering for a while. Then Mizdow hit, then the A-Lister gimmick and now, while he might want another WWE Title run, he's more than happy to defend and make the IC title the IT title on his show. I don't recall any other past IC champs that cared that much about the title etc.

I was thinking about this more, and now I'm leaning more towards Miz as a modern Larry Zbyzsko.

They were both solid, but unspectacular in the ring. Both were great promos and heat magnets. Both could main event a show and put over the top baby face, or spend a long time as a mainstay of the mid card.

On the Miz: I think of him as a prime example of a champ who is booked in a way where the company presents him as not being very good. As in, "Yes, he's the champion, but we all know that he's no Ric Flair/Hulk Hogan/John Cena."

It's an odd phenomenon, the B-grade world champion.

Speaking of Miz, I've been watching the Mixed Match Challenge. The wrestlers and commentators seem to be having a lot of fun, and it shows in the product.

Miz and Asuka have particularly been a fun contrast. Somehow, I have a feeling she's going to kick his head off in the finals.

Alright, so who you lot have winning the Rumble?

I've got Nakamura setting up that epic AJ vs. Nakamura showdown at Mania.

    Head: Nakamura
    Heart: Balor
    Actual pick: Reigns
Wild card: Cena wins. If Takers not wrestling then Cena/Styles III should close Mania. Hell with Lesnar.

    Women
    Head: Nia Jax
    Heart: Becky Lynch
    Actual pick: Asuska
Wild card: Either Bella. If they can come back or can have Mania match, one of em should win it. Epic Nikki/Flair feud? Brie as part of Bryans power struggle? Both good stories
