Local high school hockey with 100 parents and friends in the stands is just a wee bit different than the NHL, doncha think?

So because it’s preps, you should behave with less professionalism. Got it.

No. When you're in a little town, anything can be a conflict of interest. I suppose I shouldn't have bought Girl Scout Cookies when they came to my door for fear that I would be considered biased.

Let me guess, you sit at home with the shades drawn when you're not working because you're afraid someone will question your objectivity.

Do you shoot baskets in between quarters at prep basketball games, too?

Nope. But I did stand for the national anthem.

I've always wanted to do that.

Maybe when I'm about to quit.

Actually, when I'm about to do that, I'm going to insert myself into the fucking game and launch a few 3s before they stop me.

Sometimes, usually rather steal the ball from a young kid and go in for a windmill or tomahawk.

Actually, I've done this once. It was for a fundraiser for suicide prevention since a kid took his life earlier that week and a father of one of the wrestlers lost his dad to a suicide a month earlier. So I paid the $5 and took a 3-point shot. Please Snark Shark, come at me for this, I dare you because I will have the Snark all for you if you even try.

You shouldn’t be participating in school fundraisers if you cover the school. This is elementary.

Excuse it away, though, because it’s an emotional appeal.

The point is that, especially in small towns, there are conflicts in everything. What if you have kids? Do you have to send your kids to a private school outside your circulation area because you don't want the conflict of interest of covering a district that your kids attend?

No. You don't need to do that. But it's really easy not to participate in a chuck-a-puck. Really easy. Accepting the stick is just icing on the shit cake.
