The Awl Shuts Down

 

Bryan Curtis and David Shoemaker did a pretty nice elegy for the site on their podcast, "The Press Box."

 

That's Awl, folks.

Kidding aside, I liked a lot of their writing. Except Scocca's lame-ass weather reports.

This was amusing, for instance:
"Mission Impossible": I Don't Understand How Tall Everyone Is

 

The Awl, perhaps incorrectly and unfairly, because I didn't read it much, always struck me as a collection of a certain type of New Yorker, locked together in an expensive-yet-Bohemian-cool flat, smelling each other's farts.

 

Awwwwwwwwwl.

 

A bit harsh. It was a hipster online literary journal. It had a shelf life.
