What I want to do is double up - put in my road miles in the morning, then 30-40 minutes of incline and stairs work in the evening. But kids.

Yeah, that's nuts. I MIGHT be able to do 10 minutes at a 3 or so incline but that's about it.

You should see the people at the tower climb. You can tell they often had no clue what kind of hell they had signed themselves up for.

Yesterday I showed the secretaries a picture of me when I was 70 pounds heavier, from about 15 years ago.

We have a secretary in her early 60s who has basically no filter. She blurts out: "Your wife is really pretty. Did she not ... know you then?"

I can imagine. I run out of breath quicker running stairs (one flight) at my house than I do running miles on the treadmill.

It's a totally different thing. I'm curious about how I'll do this year. Last year, I emailed a bit with the guy who usually wins it. He told me, surprisingly, that he mostly trains just by logging mile after mile on the bicycle to build an aerobic base, and mixed in some stairs speedwork. It's just too damn hard to climb 30-40 stories in training. First of all, hard to get access to a building like that. Second, it's just fucking hard.

60 minutes, treadmill, combo of 4 and 4.2/15, 1450 calories.

Any particular workout songs you guys use?

The two I favor to kick off a particularly brutal speed or incline workout:

“Wicked Garden” by Stone Temple Pilots

    “She’s a River” - Simple Minds
