That's a fireable offense. Sadly, no one cares anymore. Onward and downward.

You're gonna fire someone for that?

My gut reaction was yes. I grew up with the L.A. Times. Longed to work there. Had friends and colleagues get there. I have always viewed it as among the best. Hell, the sports section was called the World Champion by Jim Healy for good reason.

They misspell Los Angeles in a drop hed? You expect that kind of sloppiness in the Riverside Press Enterprise or San Gabriel Valley Tribune. Not the L.A. freakin' Times.

You might fire a guy for this when the sports section was the World Champion, and three or four editors read every story before it appeared in print. There was no web. Now you have maybe one editor reading a story, and the few remaining editors also are reading blog posts, web stories and print stories, checking for trending stories that need to be rewritten, and rushing to get the paper out as deadlines creep ever earlier. So I couldn't justify firing a guy for this, unless it kept happening.

Probably right. But good gawd. You're the LOS ANGELES FREAKIN' TIMES and you misspell Los Angeles.

The thing is, too, it's a real misspelling, not a typo. Who would've done that, there?

I myself glanced at the tweet before looking at the screenshot photo, and was wondering to myself how Los Angeles would've been misspelled. I thought, "Oh, it must've been a typo -- like, someone maybe left an "r" in there after not hitting the "e," or something like that. Lemme look and see."

But a "u"? That's someone actually not knowing how to spell it.

I don't know if I'd fire somebody, but that is bad.

Intentional? That almost seems more plausible than anything else.
