A number of Republican congressmen on the Sunday shows were basically telling Trump that Nunes got way over his skis with the memo so best to let the matter drop.

 

I am old enough to remember when 'getting out over your skis' was a good thing, at least according to ABC ski-jumping color man and former Olympian Art Devlin.

 

Hmm, I thought the pinwheeling arms were the way to get maximum distance.

 

Former Pennsylvania congressional candidate Paul Perry gives his take on the awfulness of the fundraising process. Ed Rendell says Perry should've just held his nose.

“Look, we all bite our lips to get ahead in our designated fields,” he said. “It’s part of the business of getting elected in this country; it’s scummy and it should be changed, but until it is, play by the rules.”

It should be changed. OK, most reasonable people agree with that. So why can't it be changed?

Trump calls the shots, not some pissant congressmen and senators. Trump’s going to make this a drudge match for as long as he can. GOP Congressmen are telling anyone with money, that the Congress is open for business, and if they dont like what’s on the shelves, special orders are no problem

 

I remember reading an article somewhere years ago that interviewed first-year Congressmen on both sides of the aisle. They pretty much had to spend every evening in an office outside the Capitol on the phone raising money for both themselves and their party.

They were universally disgusted about how much time they had to spend, and how much pressure was put on them by party leaders to fundraise, instead of spending time with their constituents.

Reading it, I had the same thought that you did now. Why don't they push to change it, even if it meant working with the other side?
