All you have to know is that Avisail Garcia is the best player in the American League. / @Dick Whitman

But he's getting the best advice!

Jordan has a small stake in the Marlins of about $5 million. When Jeter turned to him for advice on being a CEO, Jordan told him, “If you believe in the plan, stick to the plan. Don’t alter it midstream.”

If there's one person I'd want advice from on running a franchise, it would be Michael Jordan for sure.

We weren't spending an inordinate amount of time on SJ back then.

We were but it took forever to read replies, what with the reliance on the postal service.

We all have our subjects we're irrational about.

Yes but there was nothing irrational about this posting. I was right! You said so yourself.

Totally. The article only got worse from there.

And, the thing it, Jeter has mostly earned good press. Sure, you could find areas to criticize. Should he have been the one to move positions, instead of A-Rod? Did he remain an everyday player, at a crucial defensive position too long? But, for the most part, he did represent himself, his team, and his city with class.

But, that doesn't mean you have to fawn over him, down to praising his choice in carpeting.

And, the whole idea that you can parachute in, and criticize the local press coverage as naive is really insulting.

He sleeps at home, with his wife and daughter! And he ignores messages about the team in order to get a good night's sleep! What a guy!

... but made sure to have a reporter follow him home to witness this scene of domestic bliss.

In the proper hands, the carpet detail would have been the hook for a subtle takedown of Jeter. All that needs to be addressed within the Marlins and one of his first concerns is the carpeting?

Also, nice job by Verducci of helping Jeter & Co. make a cancer-stricken scout sound like the bad guy. Maybe Marty wanted to know his status because he wanted to know if he'd have coverage for his illness?
