Akin to two truths and a lie:

    1. A current major-league baseball player lived in my house directly before me.

    2. My maternal great-great grandfather had four brothers who served in the Civil War. Three of them died in service: Two in battle, one at Andersonville.

    3. The ex-wife of a very good college friend is now married to former CIA director George Tenet.

    4. A woman I graduated high school with was a POW during the first Gulf War.

    5. A former president lived and practiced law less than two blocks from my childhood home, albeit in a different century.

    1. I got an A on a book report in grammar school about a book that didn't exist. I'd forgotten about the assignment and brainstormed a book and the report on the bus.
    2. I got married in the same Las Vegas chapel as Dennis Rodman and Carmen Electra, and while my marriage lasted nearly a decade, it also ended in divorce.
    3. I took 9 classes and 23 hours during the second semester of my senior year in college in order to graduate on time, which the dean told me was a record at the time.
    4. President George H.W. Bush once bought me a drink
    5. I am DB Cooper.

I taught myself cursive when I was 7.

I spoke on a long-distance telephone call to former MLB relievers Lynn McGloughlin and Donnie Moore (yes, that Donnie Moore) when I was a kid growing up in Arkansas.

I quit my job, sold everything I couldn't fit into my car and moved (with two dogs) to Virginia for a woman I'd never met. She became my second ex-wife.

My first and final classes for my 4-year bachelor's degree came 22 years apart.

    I've never seen It's a Wonderful Life.

I was in the same graduating class as a Pro Bowl and Super Bowl champion.

I had a distant cousin who played in the NFL before the merger.

I was born on the day of the greatest earthquake to ever strike the U.S. (I shook the world!)

I knew all the states and capitals and how to spell them by first grade.

I have been a trained weather spotter and storm chaser for 20 years, but have never actually seen a tornado.

I was going to put that Tommy Lasorda screamed at me a couple of years ago, but that's hardly rare.

    1. Former President George H.W. Bush nearly fell off a stage and into my path as I was walking outside the press workroom at the Convention Center for the Super Bowl in 2004.
    2. A son of another republican president is a friend of mine.
    3. My next-door neighbor was arrested and charged with 16 felony counts for maintaining his dwelling for the manufacture, sale and/or distribution of drugs.
    4. I grew up around the corner from a woman featured in Playboy's issue of NFL cheerleaders. She was working as a mail clerk at a local post office at the time the magazine's publication.
    5. David Byrne and I had the same driving teacher several years apart.

    2. I lived within walking distance of every school I attended, including college, from the same house.
    3. I once rode a motorcycle 140 mph -- but will not get on a rollercoaster.
    4. I'm fortycoughcoughcough and I don't know how to swim.
    5. Whatever important movie you can think of, there's probably a better than 50-50 chance I haven't seen it.
