He's just transferring a shopworn talking point about gun regulations to a problem for which it does not apply.

Nothing speaks to the Trump voting demographic like the on-screen graphics on that screen cap.

So, why don't we focus on keeping the Nikolas Cruz and James Holmes of the world from obtaining guns, and have a system that alerts law enforcement if they do?

These guys should have never had guns. That's inarguable. We have the means to track people like this, and their purchases, and social media posts, etc.

Agree. And since cops aren't in the mass killing business, let's take theirs too. (Which, BTW, I'd very much like to see.)

You present no evidence that "any suggestion that Hillary should be embarrassed" or leave Bill was criticized. You have a handful of message board posters suggesting that Melania leave Trump.

I can think of an even better "system" for making sure that they don't obtain AR-15s.

There was this one time when innocent Americans in a CA diner were minding their own business when a guy came in to rob the place and the only thing that stopped him was a citizen who had superior firepower.

Gun control advocates are their own worst enemy.

We have you, telling us that you only want to regulate guns like the AR-15, but standing behind you and screaming, while being held back by other moderates, like every short, drunk guy in a bar brawl, are guys like @Michael_ Gee, screaming about taking away all guns, and imposing martial law to do it.

That's not going to build the kind of trust with gun owners that will allow for "common sense" reform.

    I agree.

My brother is in the Michael_Gee camp, particularly on Facebook. He thinks guns should be banned entirely. No one should own one. There's no reason to own one. If you own one, you're an idiot and part of the problem. Fuck guns. And on and on.

That would require a serious technological upgrade to connect medical records (likely changes to HIPAA) to FBI files to local law enforcement to NICS and more stringent reporting cues from mental health professionals, educators and LEOs. The chance of those laws being altered are slim to none - as long as the NRA is writing checks.

I actually don't think guns should be banned. They should be like cars, taxed and owners required to have liability insurance. This would discourage the development of private arsenals and encourage handgun safety. Semi-automatic weapons should be banned. We could take a break from blowing up wedding Pakistan and send some Predator drones to drop leaflets on the homes of AR-15 owners with the message, "if this was a Hellfire missile, you'd be dead now."

Well, again, until gun owners see folks willing to compromise on other issues that will combat these kinds of school shootings, they're unlikely to go along with "common sense" gun control.

If the answer is always, and only, gun confiscation, that's not going to fly.
