Not really. JFK fucked anything that moved, and probably a few who didn't (Hi, Marilyn!), and no one seemed to care. Why would I care what this asshole did 10 years before he was elected president? I couldn't possibly think less of him.

 

Reminder: The President of the United States openly stated that he fired the director of the FBI for investigating Russian election interference, for which we now have indictments of foreign nationals operating on US. soil illegally. Not just the social media army, but actively organizing pro-Trump rallies.

They will try to dance around that fact, obfuscate it, deflect or even bold-facedly deny it, but it's indisputable truth at this point. The rest is posturing.

Short term:

Classrooms should have the strong metal doors with the high, small, double paned window at the top with the wires. They should have a strong deadbolt lock that locks with a turn of the handle inside and only unlocks from outside only with a special key.

Rather than crouch behind desks and put their heads down, students should be taught to stand aside the door with a chair, bat, hockey stick, or pencil in their hands and prepare to jump the shooter when he enters.

Long term:

Ultimately we need to confiscate and ban the sale and manufacturing of handguns and rifles that use detachable, multiple magazines. Just because it won't happen in my lifetime doesn't mean it is a bad idea.

 

Tightening securities at schools is theater, and anyone who believes otherwise is kidding themselves.

You could build the entire thing out of impenetrable unobtanium and put armed guards at every door, but at 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. you're still going to have hundreds of kids outside on the sidewalks, and anyone with a gun can do a shit-ton of damage before anyone can stop them.
