Nope, my first was '92, when they initiated the punches landed count method as a "reform." Saw a bout where one judge had it a scoreless tie because he couldn't figure out how his scoring buttons worked.

Y’all, did you know Chen did six quads and Rippon is “owning” the Olympics? Terry, Tara and Johnny are repeating those things like a mantra.

 

I'd ask what all these different jumps (Salchow, Lutz, etc.) are, but it's like re-entry rules in high school baseball and softball: I fear I might understand them.

Agreed. In related news, I turned on the game against Switzerland the other day and had no idea which team was which.

 

I've almost exclusively watched the livestream for figure skating. It's an international feed, so all the skaters are treated relatively equally. Also, the commentators are actually making it (mostly) about the athletes, not themselves.

 

Only when Americans finish 5th and 10th do they win the Olympics.

Sorry, but Rippon has turned into the queen of the divas at the worlds largest pity party.

 

It’s terrible. None of the US skaters had a chance in hell of medaling once Chen fell. But on TV, Rippon is being interviewed like he’s the star of the whole Olympics when he can’t do a single quad. He literally has no chance to medal without the entire field shitting its pants. This is like CBS pumping up a 9 seed before the tournament starts and continuing to do so after they’ve lost by double digits in the second round.

It’s a shame, because Weir and (especially) Lipinski were very good when they weren’t pumping storylines.
