1.) Dick can be right about Arrieta beginning a decline phase and being a poor long-term investment.

2.) OOP can be right that Dick was wrong about Lester beginning his decline phase (I missed that exchange, aww shucks).

3.) Arrieta can still be on the market not because teams are advanced enough in their thinking to realize he's in his decline, but because it's a bad market on which to be a 32-year-old looking for a six-year deal, and also b/c Arrieta has shitty mechanics that could lead to injury and the aforementioned decline, and also b/c Arrieta is a flaming asshole and a pain in the ass to be around and that should really tell you something because even the Cubs, who develop pitching about as well as I stay away from this joint and have no problem with shitty character guys, chose to sign question mark-riddled Yu Darvish over Arrieta.

All these things can be true.

Is Arrieta a “bad character” guy? I know he’s a high-maintenance pain in the ass, but I feel like teammates like him.

No, I'm really not. I call you Dickie the Troll for good reason. You've earned it time and again. It's not all you do by a long shot, but you do it.

You posted about it to start shit. That is very clear.

We argued about his performance in 2016. You were talking about his future decline. I wasn't. Yet you want to declare some victory because he doesn't have a contract yet, two years later, even though there are plenty of free agents in the same boat. That statement is false and it fails to take the current market into account. Darvish signed about a week ago. Hosmer signed yesterday. J.D. Martinez is still out there. Arrieta isn't the only one who has had to wait.

I always go back to the Orioles, who have been in dire need of pitching since Mussina left, dumping him on the Cubs for the very fungible Scott Feldman. Buck & Duquette are anything but stupid. When they're willing to dump a guy like that for pennies on the dollar, it tells you all you need to know about his character.

LOL. Yeah that was a really smart move they made. They saw the future there.
