He's an alpha male in constant alpha male mode. You can handle it for a little while if you're the Cubs and you've got the coolest cat managing your team and some other veteran guys to dilute his impact. But it really is telling that the Cubs went nine figures with someone and it wasn't him.

This is a deal I like. Dyson is a valuable player with his defense and speed:

Harmless for the money and he's a fine fourth guy, but I wouldn't want to bank on those skills carrying him as a full-timer in his age-34 season.

Even with Martinez gone, Dyson isn't really in line to be a full-time starter for the Diamondbacks.A.J. Pollock, David Peralta and Yasmany Tomas should be the starters. I'm guessing they haven't fully given up on Socrates Brito yet, either. Dyson played in 111 games and made 390 plate appearances for the Mariners last year. Seems like a similar plan for this season is in order.

The big problem with that is relying on Pollock to stay healthy, which is a dubious bet at best.

With this addition, FanGraphs now predicts the Red Sox will be right between the Astros and Yankees in runs per game. Considering Boras floated a figure of $200m earlier in the process, this is a relative steal for Boston.

Agreed, though the track record for FA OFs 30 and up is not good. 5 years isn't too bad though.Seem to be lots of bargains out there. So where does Moustakas land? Who still needs a 3b, except the Yankees who I doubt would go more than 2 years.

I doubt Martinez plays more than a handful of games in the outfield. He’s gonna DH full time, which will hopefully keep him healthy.

The longer he stays out there, the more he feels like a stealthy Yankees pickup.

It depends how much playing time they want to find for Hanley Ramirez. I'm sure Betts, Benintendi and Bradley will play the outfield most of the time, but Martinez at DH forces Ramirez to first. The easiest thing is just to sit Moreland, but he hits well enough against right-handers and he's a strong enough defender that they may get creative to put in in the lineup.
