I’m mostly kidding. I know you mean well, but a decent portion of your posts come off quite authoritarian.

Of course, that Bruce Willis flick is a remake of a 40-year-old series of movies of the same thing. So has anything else changed? Did Charles Bronson look less cool blowing everything up?

I just try to remind folks that even our most favorite amendments to the Constitution are not absolutes. We already make lots and lots of common sense exceptions when necessary, ie, defamation law, fighting words, inciting to riot, etc.

Some of those exceptions work, and some do not, some work for decades and become outdated when the culture changes. Obscenity laws are good example of this.

Law is dynamic because threats to law are dynamic.

Do I want to limit speech? Of course not. But now that everyone with a smartphone is a global publisher, maybe American defamation law needs an update.
