People do stupid shit all the time. You follow the Trump administration as closely as anybody, so you should know this. It is absolutely possible his office fucked up. The reporting of the incident was not good, but to claim the kids were wrong when you don't know just shows your ridiculous bias once again.

Glad to see he met with the students, apparently without picking and choosing which ones could attend. Seems to compare favorably to somebody else's approach.

But that's precisely the "strategy" of someone like Trump. You make a Shit Mountain so big that nobody knows how to tackle it, and what would pass for a grievous sin under another administration just becomes part of the landscape. Pick your spots? Like, he does something reprehensible just about every day. It's like when Rob Ford was mayor of Toronto. Just because he smoked crack means that you ignore the time he held a press conference about eating out his wife? Like, who gets to decide what matters and what doesn't?

National Rifle Assn: Summary | OpenSecrets

It can’t be about the contributions, lil Marco sold his soul for $10K each election cycle?

It’s about the ads they can run against a candidate. And they push the narrative that their membership is as close to single issue voters as possible to swing EVERY election.

Find a conservative who actually has a moral compass and is against abortion and pro gun control. There are actually some democrats like this. But how many conservatives/Republicans will be against the NRA on a Pro-Life platform.
Seriously, I would listen to that candidate.

What the NRA has figured out is that they aren't really single-issue voters. The NRA has managed to make position their issue as a signifier of what kind of person the candidate is, what timber he is of.

The only way to get out from it is if the second amendment people decide they want to do something about him.

You can release your medical records if you like, I guess. So it would just be consenting to their release for the background check, no?

LaPierre's CPAC speech reads like a John Birch Society pamphlet circa 1960.

This country has lost its goddamned mind.

But the law would be conditioning a Constitutional right upon a background check. It might be OK, especially if it were limited to certain purchases. But would you need a background check to buy a single-action revolver? A hunting rifle?

I don't think that would stand. Just a hunch.
