In 2012, Pennsylvania Republicans lost the statewide cumulative House vote. More Pennsylvanians cast votes for Democratic candidates for the House than Republican candidates.

But because of extreme gerrymandering that created districts like this:

That majority of votes going to Democrats resulted in 13 out of 18 Congressional seats going to Republicans.

This is what Republicans are crying about not being allowed to do. They literally want to replace democracy with a rigged system in which they get to stay in power no matter who the majority votes for. They will tear down societal institutions such as the court, the press or the FBI to accomplish this. They will openly allow Russians to infiltrate our shores and attempt to illegally sway our elections, so long as it helps them with this single-minded goal. Not convincing the American people to vote for them, but simply making the American people's votes irrelevant to their continued domination.

And they'll tell you that it's OK because both sides do it, even though it's overwhelmingly proven this isn't true. Both sides aren't the same. When asked to submit a map to the court for the Pennsylvania district boundaries, the Democratic-submitted map did not include a significant Democratic advantage.

Odds Trump actually read the Democrats’ memo?

    That’s quite a mistake.

If I could fix one and only one persistent mistake from stupid people on the internet, it would be their evergreen belief that blame is indivisible. That you can only blame one party, and that assigning said blame implicitly removes it from all other parties.

    This time.

And of course it didn't. If you are going to demand, "Change these districts because that side is cheating!" the LAST thing you are going to do is submit a revised map that shows YOUR side is cheating.

That will have to wait until they are in power.

This is Maryland's 3rd Congressional district, scored as the second-most gerrymandered district in the nation. It is home to Democratic congressman John Sarbanes.

Shouldn't the body that draws electoral boundaries be independent and impartial somehow? Do those people exist in America anymore?

This is endemic to both sides. 20 years ago Maryland was split 4 & 4 for Congressional seats. Connie Morella was a great congresswoman for liberal Montgomery County who happened to be a republican. The Dems gerrymandered the districts for 7 dems and 1. R. Gerrymandering was a subtle art. Now, like everything the republicans do it is without subtlety and without civility and without democracy. It is a blunt instrument carried out with gleeful disregard for democracy. The conservatives are gearing up to try and repeal the 17th Amendment.
