AKs are the only other firearm in mass circulation that can do the damage to a large crowd of people. It’s a combination of ease of use, high-capacity magazines, the behavior of a .223 bullet when it strikes the target and easy access.

Yeah, a .44 revolver can punch a hole the size of a softball when it exits a body. But you only get six shots, it kicks like an angry mule and most people couldn’t hit anything more than 20 feet away with one. Then reloading takes much longer.
