Sugar sandwiches. Gooey white bread slathered with butter, then sprinkled liberally with sugar.
My goodness, those were great as a kid.
And Ding Dongs. Not the modern ones, the ones in real aluminum foil in the 70s.

Diet pop is good for a short period of time to wean yourself off sugary drinks. I used it for a year to lose a substantial amount of weight, slowly switching to just water. I now will have a fountain Diet Coke when I eat out about twice a month.

That’s not a lucrative market for Coke and Pepsi, though.

I was not surprised to learn that Coke was the best-selling soft drink. I was surprised, however, to learn Diet Coke was No. 2, ahead of Pepsi.

I've really been surprised by the decline in my beer consumption over the years.

In my 20s and well into my 30s, we'd hit the neighborhood dive after 1:30 a.m. deadline and everybody would buy a pitcher. Which we'd have drained by 2:30 a.m.

Today, I might have a beer when I go out to eat. If I get a second, I'm almost always leaving part of it behind (at the table, not elsewhere). And the only time we have beer in the house is if we're hosting a party.

Haven’t had a drink in almost eight years. Wasted too much of my life with alcohol. Would like to have about 97 percent of those hours back.

I used to drink a 12-pack or more every day.

    Now, I barely drink a 12-pack a year.

Once I got into my 30s I never had to worry about drinking to excess. If I've got more than two drinks in me and I'm sitting down, I fall asleep. It's like my body's defense against alcoholism.

Isn't your whole diet a guilty pleasure?

When I was single, I’d make a box of egg noodles with a stick of butter. Zero nutrition value.

On the soda debate, as I hit my mid-40s, I found that artificial sugar messed with my stomach. Have cut out all soda (only drank diet) and Equal for the past 4 years.
