Well, this is somewhat interesting to me.

It's almost like some politicians -- and Republicans did the same thing regarding repealing ObamaCare -- want to propose policies that sound good, when they know they won't be implemented, because they stir up the base.

But, when they actually can be/are implemented, they all of a sudden get cold feet.

 

Of course! Like I said, it's a bad look.

It's danged easy to say "We're gonna help the American steel worker and save his job!" and avoid the election year attack ads of "Why won't (Congressman X) fight for American steelworkers?"

 

I hope Real Americans know how these tariffs will affect their wallets.

Like Nixon, playing to the "constituency of uneducated people."

Last time we raised steel tariffs in 2002, it caused the loss of 200,000 jobs. (from the report cited in Azrael's post).
