That's easy. Dem politicians in Rust Belt states have to pander to their steelworker voters, same as Red State Dems have to be very careful with anti-gun votes.

It's dumb policy, with all sorts of policy implications that he's clueless about. We're going to get hit with all sorts of mirror trade punishment, particularly in agriculture, and then the WTO will rule against us and he'll have to back down. Cars and beer prices going up will probably be the first place it shows up here.
