The Oscars - the only time the world listens to a writer (if only for 45 seconds).
    I r ead an article
5 Hollywood Secrets That Explain Why So Many Movies Suck
about how bad movies are made. It was depressing. Most movies start with a producer and an idea, who then "sells" it to a studio who will lock in a release date. The idea will be shaped to ensure that it will draw at least three of the four quadrants (young men, young women, older men, older women), product placement and merchandising ideas will incorporated into the idea, at that point a director is hired, or maybe the lead is secured first and then the director. At that point they hire writers to put it all into a workable script and plot. Sometimes several groups of writers. Also understand that the foreign market makes up for more than half of the gross these days, and foreign investors won't invest in a movie they won't understand or don't want to understand. Explosions and shots to the groin are universal.
If you're able to do this a few times successfully - perhaps then, they'll take a look at your spec script (which helped get you the job on the "Franchise" movie).

I was really hoping Kobe would take the Oscar and ask Shaq "how his ass taste."

I'm right there with you guys. In college I wrote a short screenplay on a pirated version of Final Draft 7. "Sunday Best" is a tale of forbidden love between a devoutly Catholic prostitute and her priest, and the decisions that change the course or their lives. Forever.

Some notable omissions from In Memoriam (at least to me):

    Frank Vincent
    Stephen Furst
    Adam West

Haven’t seen Shape of Water yet.

But whomever first came up with “Grinding Nemo” deserves their own award.

I wasn’t commenting, per se, about Bryant’s case, but about the person who was cited in the previous post. I did not find that person to be objective

    LOL, Hollywood. Peak liberal hypocrisy.

If Hollywoodcould make a dollar more making movies that appeal to evangelical Indiana sensibilities they would. In fact they did. It was called the 1950’s. TV too.
Hollywood is as capitalist an industry as it comes. We just saw Game Night yesterday. About a dozen obvious product placements, especially for Chevy, Nissan, TostitosScoops and Stella Artois.
If SteveBannon and the KochBrotherswant to counter produce movies, let them. But most of the highest per capitafamily income are reliable democrat/liberal states.

Want to program for Indiana? 35th per capita income. Or Connecticut, 1st.
Or program for Utah, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky...below the average in income. Or California, higher income and population.

If flyover country wants more entertainment geared to their values maybe they should work harder and make more money.
