Billy Hamilton may be standing on third base by the time a four-hopper gets to the bag.

Maybe the Cubs can invite Mackey Sasser to throw back the first pitch.

Speaking of Sasser, the 30 for 30 short film on him from a few years ago is really good:

The sad thing is, he was a fun hitter to watch. He always went up there swinging and, as memory serves, he didn't strike out that much.

Excellent. Now I won't have to explain to my oldest what the hell the thing is that Jake Taylor is driving when he's following Lynn home from the ballpark.

Some insane Mariner fans are actually upset by this ... "We should be signing John Jay!"

    Here's an example: http://sports.mynorthwest.com/422935/moore-why-i-dont-want-to-see-ichiro-back-with-the-mariners/?

Personally, I think it's a good move. Starting outfielder Ben Gamel could be out a couple months, and at that point, if Ichiro isn't contributing at all, it didn't cost the team much to sign him. And anyone complaining about "nostalgia" or "publicity stunts" overestimates the appeal of this year's Mariner team. Ichiro will sell tickets and generate interest that's sorely needed.

He's a franchise hero. Fans who aren't at least a little pleased he's back would not be much fun to have sitting next to you at a Mariners game.

I hate signings like these, trying to relive the glory years. Move on.

It doesn't seem like he is in the way of a developing major league talent, though. So why not?

    Signed,
Lincecum For Life! (or through '15 anyway)

False, the Mariners have never had glory years.
