    My best meal in recent history was last April when my cousin's roommate in west Texas made us slow-cooked short ribs, which sounds gloriously authentic except that he was born, raised, and came of age in East Chicago, Indiana.

    One of the problems created by the sudden boom here in hipster 'cue and food truck rodeo cuisine is the skyrocketing price for what used to be poor man's cuts like brisket and oxtails.
