Benitez used to drive me nuts. He looked like the greatest closer in the world until someone got on base, then he would just mentally fall apart.

We've all learned over the years not to call professional athletes soft, and yet...

He didn't even have anyone on when he arguably cost the Mets the 2000 World Series by walking Paul O'Neill in a 1,000-pitch at-bat leading off the 9th inning of Game 1 with the Mets up a run.

Only one time has the first pitch of the entire MLB season been hit for a home run. Who did it?

    Dwight Evans, 1986.

Indeed. He had no fear of the mustache on that day.

Only reason I know that is I have 14,000,000 million doubles of the 1987 Topps "record breaker" card detailing his first pitch homer.

Fuck Bill Madlock and his horseshit slide that took out Tony Fernandez in the last week of the 87 season leaving fucking Manny Lee to play short and the Blue Jays losing the division to the Tigers.

Edit: @Elliotte Friedman and @Huggy beat me to it.

Tried to emulate the flip from the whole at short back in the day. I ended up playing second.

Since there are so many Tony Fernandez fans here, what was his childhood nickname? I will take the spanish or English version.

    It's Rick Wise

Cloninger for the longest time was the only NL player to hit two grand slams in the same game, but a few guys have done it in recent years.
