Maybe. The committee may look back at MTSU in the last couple of NCAAs and cut them a little slack. I doubt it, though, because that would mean two C-USA teams getting in, and that seems very unlikely. Not when a sixth place P5 team could have the slot instead. Cynical? Sure, but it gets worse every year, so its informed cynicism.

In the end, does it come down to MTSU vs Notre Dame?

Without looking at the other bubble resumes, my feeling is that Notre Dame doesn't deserve to be in. For all the talk about how long they had to play without Colson and, sometimes, Ferrell, they lost to Ball State and Indiana with those guys - and got their doors blown off by Michigan State and Duke, with those guys. They lack quality wins. Yes, they beat Wichita in Maui, but other than that, it's Syracuse, VaTech, and that's about it. Like Oklahoma, they are living off of an early-season ranking right now.

I think you're right. They're not as close as I presumed. Even Brey indicated last night that he doesn't expect a bid.

NCAA justification when 14-loss ND gets in: "The whole season, every game matters. Except for the games those guys missed, since Notre Dame plays in the ACC."

Alabama will apparently be in as a 15-loss at-large entrant. An example of the impact of conference expansion and resulting tv demands for more conference games.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if Tubby won the conference title?

And an example of the incredible number of mulligans P5 programs get.

It’s been found that when Duke plays at Notre Dame, hymens spontaneously regenerate.
