The committee fucked the schools it thinks are most likely to get hammered by the FBI. Except Arizona, of course. Their trusting innocence that the FBI won't leak the name of a Final Four team two days before the teams get there is very sweet.

Plus WVU and Marshall. Maybe the committee thinks San Diego is somewhere in western Tennessee.

Didn't watch bracket show ... don't have cable TV ... but was the new format any more watchable than the old one?

Oklahoma has been well discussed. 'Bama has fifteen losses. I don't think much of Syracuse getting in either.

Middle Tennessee had the makings of a Sweet Sixteen team if it got a decent draw.

At least they didn't put Notre Dame in... and hell, they should probably be in over 'Cuse.

It is, but higher seeds get priority and there aren’t enough West Coast teams, especially if they aren’t going to put USC or St, Mary’s in.

Re: Saint Mary's not getting in. Although they've improved a ton in the past decade, they still don't have the cache of Gonzaga to attract good neutral-court matchups. Many of the Gaels' regular nonconference opponents play in the Pac-12, which was way down this year (also, don't lose to an awful Washington State team).

And then when they finally do arrange a P5-matchup, they're hurt this year by Georgia being mediocre at best.

There are literally a handful of mid-major teams who have a shot at an at-large berth each season, and this year Saint Mary's wasn't one of them. They could have gone unbeaten in the WCC, but lost in the conference tournament, and they'd be another Vermont.

P.S. — no one should wonder why GU is considering bolting from the West Coast Conference. It's a glorified Big Sky Conference.

I think I quickly count fewer than half the schools west of the Mississippi staying on that side of the country for their first game.

The pod system is for the one seeds. After that they just guess. The selection show convinced me. The NCAA will not stop until it ruins the one and only good thing it's ever done. Within five years, ten at the most, they'll have wrecked the tournament.

College basketball in California is awful. None of the WCC or Big West schools can find consistency. Long Beach had a little run and Pepperdine or Loyola used to occasionally have a good season, now everyone is average or worse.

St. Mary's turned down a home game against Rhode Island and a game against Creighton. It's their own fault.
